ON THE BASIC CHARACTERISTICS OF THE PRACTICE OF REGIONALISM

Abstract: iming at a deeper understanding of the international trend of economic integration and regionalism, the author of this paper gives a summary and analysis to the basic characteristics of the worldwide practice of regionalism and regional cooperation, with focus on the role of government in such a trend, mainly through elaborating its objectives and measures proposed. The basic geographical features of regionalism worldwide and the institutional development of regional cooperation have been reviewed from a dynamic point of view. Further more, the objectives and approaches of regional cooperation of representative regionalism groups have been analyzed comparatively, with an additional introduction to the major related policy measures adopted.
