Introduction to Progress in Geography

Progress in Geography, transformed from Translations of Geography in 1997 and published in Beijing, is a reputable bimonthly academic journal sponsored by Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Researches, Chinese Academy of Science. With an energetic style and serious scholastic attitude，it aims at presenting the foremost front-edge dynamic and fruits in both geographic research and related subject study. The papers published include theoretic geographic studies, national economy related researches, topics with high application value, and directional comprehensive investigation to researching statuses. Its fields cover GIS, remote sensing, resources utilization, geology, environment, global changes, sustainable development, tourism, etc.

As the first independently developed and maintained Website on geographic publication, www.progressingeography.com has soon stricken widespread influences in geography community since it was afloat in mid-1998. As an acknowledgement of achievements acquired by this Journal, the award of "The Most Excellent Geographic Journal" is honored by Chinese Geography Association this year. And we was ranked in the position of 16 among thousands of academic journals in China, with year 2002's influencing index 1.245, according to "Chines S&T Journal Citation Reports 2003."
