Apart from the four basic driving forces for urbanization process in the whole world (i.e. the spatial aggregation of industries; the economic structural transferring; intensification of urban rural and urban urban interactions and technology progress), the author argued that there do exist some special driving forces for Chinese urbanization process. Among them, the most important ones are: multi effects of the administration centers; policy orientations; changes of administrative regionalization; influence of the giant construction projects; driving forces of foreign investments and some special factors, such as defense requirements, border trading and tourism, etc.. After analyzing the driving forces, the author put forward some strategies for the future development of Chinese urbanization, such as the development of rural enterprises; management of household registration system; management of urban landuse.

Over the past decade, the research of environmental critical situation has captured the interests of the scientific community and has made considerable headway. Some issues of environmental situation, the concept of the environmental criticality, the research work at present, forces driving environmental change and societal responses have summarized in this paper. And this paper points out that critical environment does exist in the world, but is always ignored easily, so we have to pay full attention to this. According the process of international and national research, social and economic factors should be fully considered in the research of environmental criticality which needs analyzing together with regional sustainable development and global change.

Background graphic information base (BGIB) is the basic component of resources information system (RIS). The integrated content, the scientific structure, and the dependable precision of BGIB have closely relationship with the function playing and usage affection of RIS. Taking the creation of Shaanxi 1:250,000 BGIB of Shaanxi mineral resources information system as a case study, the paper discusses how to chose and determine the content of BGIB, and how to design and develop the structure of BGIB. Through a large number of trial studying, the author works out the optimal working flow of creating BGIB. There are three main stages that are preparing, digitizing, and checking. The principal tasks, working ways, and matters needing attention of each stage are expounded in detail by means of concrete examples. The author points out that the creation of BGIB is a systematic engineering.

This paper introduces the geography background, history geography and its environmental evolution of the water transfer region in the west of China and focuses on the analysis of several typical areas. Meanwhile, by establishing regional engineering information system, this paper discribes and estimates the effect of the water transfer project and the sustainable development in the west. Also, based on the example of the benefit simulation analysis of 4.5 billion cubic metres of water transfer from Yalong River, this paper demonstrates the importance of that transfer to the regional economical sustainable development.

This paper is to undertake the reserch on runoff and concentration in plain area by using systematic approach: multiple linear model (MLM) and multiple linear perturbation model (MLPM). A case study of Zhaoniu catchment in Shandong Provinve has been selected to calibrate and verificate the models’ performance, which gives relatively good results in calibration period and poor results in verification period. The main reasons have been tentatively explained and specific characteristics in dealing with runoff for plain area have been explored.

In this paper, the content and distribution of pollutants in soil plant system typically polluted by irrigating farmland soil are discussed. The results show that some heavy metals accumulate in the soil. So far, it hasn’t brought about obvious endanger to plants in farmland and majority of heavy metals accumulate in the roots. It is one of feasible sewage revitalizing ways to enhance sewage irrigating management, by using farmland as the treatment system to eliminate pollution in foul water.
